March 2009 - Leighton Artist Colony, Banff Centre, Banff, Alberta
Our month-long, second artist-in-residence at the Banff Centre was the time where our previous research for the 'Women Rock' body of work moved into its third phase. With four specialised studio spaces we focused on making the work. Our Leighton Colony studio in the woods was our dry studio where machines and cutting tables were set up. The print, paper and dying studios were in constant use, often until late at night as textiles were dyed, printed, felted and steamed and taken back and forth between studios as layers upon layers where built up on them.
Fibre artist, Martha Cole joined us for a week and under her guidance we developed skills in self critiquing and she took the group to the next level in its professional development. We also manged to have two exhibitions of our work in the Other Gallery over the month.
