August 2008 - Regina, Saskatchewan
While based in Regina, we traveled out to the prairies, everyday in a different direction, every day with a different theme. Our goal was to explore and get a sense of life on the prairies, in the past and the present. Historical/art day was spent in the Shurniak Art Gallery, Assinibioa, walking through historic Gravelbourg buildings, and experiencing at dusk St Victor's petroglyphs with archeologist David Munro. Farm day was focused on crops, old and new grain elevators, and traditional and high tech farm operations. Pioneer day began with an exploration tour of the Qu'Appelle Valley and the rest of the day we were involved in activities at the Motherwell Homested, Abernathy. Movie day started in Rouleau where we were guests on the 'Corner Gas' film set, then moved on to spend the rest of the day investigating the history in Moose Jaw. That evening we attended an outdoor reenactment of the 'Medicine Line' story. Friends/art day was focused on a visit to Martha Cole at her home and studio in Disley with a slow trip back to Regina stopping at many photograph opportunities.
